Your experience with these matters helped us make a wise decision...
Nancy,
I would first like to start by saying you and your firm are absolutely incredible! When my wife and I decided to purchase a franchise business we sought to find the best attorney for the job. Without question we found you and your firm. It started by the immense and detailed amount of information you gave to everyone on your website, to the promptness of your responses whether it was by phone or by email, to your confidence and sheer determination to get things changed in the agreements. I am truly impressed with your thoroughness, attention to detail, and your sincere desire to protect your client. Your experience with these matters helped us make a wise decision and now that we have chosen the right Franchise to purchase, we completely understand how important it is to have the absolute best attorney in the business. This is a very exciting yet concerned part of our lives and you truly relieved a lot of the pressure and made it a pleasure.
Sincere thanks to you and your firm.

Buying a Franchise
Once you have decided to purchase a franchise, what should you do next?
-
Read the cover story in the February 2008 issue of The Costco Connection, featuring Nancy Lanard's discussion on how to Fend off Franchising Fiascos.
-
Read the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC). It describes the investment you will be making, the anticipated initial costs, your legal obligations and the background and financial strength of the franchisor, among other things.
-
Contact current and former franchisees. Ask lots of questions, including ones to help you determine the strengths and weaknesses of the franchisor.
-
Review the franchisor's audited financial statements with an experienced business accountant. (These financial statements are contained in the UFOC) Ask your accountant to evaluate the financial strength of the franchisor, whether this business will help you accomplish your financial goals and an estimate of how long it will take to meet those goals.
-
Consult an experienced franchise attorney. Our firm has the experience to advise you on the risks and advantages in making this substantial investment before you sign a franchise agreement.
